Clematis cottages are easy to find situated 4 miles North of Stamford, Lincolnshire just off the A1.  See below for detailed instructions.

 

Business Hours: As we live and work on site we can be contacted between the hours of 9am – 10pm, seven days a week. We are also open 12 months of the year.

Pets: Unfortunately, we don’t allow dogs or other pets to stay at our cottages.

Detailed directions

Should you choose to go through Stamford first…

1.From A1 North bound

After passing the RAF Wittering base, look out for the turning left off the A1 (the old roundabout here has been replaced) which takes you over the new bridge over the A1. (The Burghley House exit.)

Through Stamford
This leads you into Stamford itself, down St Martin’s past the George Hotel on the left.

After the George Hotel, go through the lights, over the bridge, and immediately turn right onto Wharf Road. (A short stay car park is located along here on the right hand side.)

Stay on Wharf Road until you pass “ASEMBO hair and beauty salon” which is the building that used to be “The Daniel Lambert Public House” then turn left onto Brazenose Lane

Go up the hill and at the first set of traffic lights turn right and proceed up to the mini roundabout.

Take the first exit sign posted A6121 towards Bourne.

(Should you require any groceries go straight on at this roundabout for 200m and you will find Morrisons supermarket on the left hand side at the next roundabout)

From Stamford follow the A6121 out past the Hospital, and collection of stores (Currys, Homebase etc) for approx 2 miles.

Leaving Stamford
After having left Stamford you will arrive at a series of mini roundabouts. These take you past the village of Ryhall.

Immediately after Ryhall (once through the traffic calming traffic lights, and over the little bridge) turn left up onto the B1176, (direction Little Bytham and Careby) for about 2 miles.

Stay on the B1176 and proceed through the Carlby/Pickworth crossroads, (beware the bump in the road.)

Proceed up and over “Barbers Hill”.

Once over Barber’s Hill LOOK OUT for the signpost to “Aunby village only” There is only one signpost for Aunby. (We are only a small hamlet of 7 houses).

Turn left here onto a single-track lane, and the entrance to Lodge Farm is approximately 200m on the left. If you reach the large green barns on the right you have missed the turning!

Come through the gate, up through the paddock, we are at the top of the hill.

Clematis cottages are in the front of the farmhouse.

2. Entering Stamford on the A43 from Corby/Northampton

After passing Stamford junior School on the left hand side proceed to the T -junction and turn left onto St Martin’s. Follow the instructions past the George as if entering from the A1 Northbound.

3. Entering Stamford on the A6121 from Morcott (A47)

Stay on the A6121 (Tinwell Road) into Stamford. Remain on the A6121all through the town. The road changes name from Tinwell Road, to West Street, through the first set of major traffic lights and becomes North Street.

After passing under a footbridge you will arrive at a set of traffic lights

Turn left here onto Ryhall road, past the main entrance to Stamford Boys School. Proceed up to the mini roundabout.

Take the first exit signposted A6121 towards Bourne.

(Should you require to pick up any groceries go straight on at this roundabout for 200m and you will find Morissons supermarket on the left hand side at the next roundabout)

From Stamford follow the A6121 out past the Hospital, and collection of stores (Currys, Homebase etc) for approx 2 miles.

Then follow the directions above “Leaving Stamford”

4.Entering Stamford on the A606 from Oakham

Stay on the A606 under the A1 onto Empingham Road into Stamford. Join Scotgate, towards the town and after the BP garage on the left turn left at the next set of traffic lights onto North Street.

After passing under the footbridge you will arrive at a set of traffic lights

Turn Left here onto Ryhall road, past the main Entrance to Stamford Boys School. Proceed up to the mini roundabout.

Take the first exit sign posted A6121 towards Bourne.

(Should you require to pick up any groceries go straight on at this roundabout for 150m and you will find Morrisons supermarket on the left hand side at the next roundabout)

From Stamford follow the A6121 out past the Hospital, and collection of stores (Currys, Homebase etc) for approx 2 miles.

Then follow the directions above “Leaving Stamford”

5. From A1 Southbound

After passing Rutland county golf course look out for the slip road for Great Casterton/ Stamford (B 1081)

Take this exit you have now entered Great Casterton village. Stay on the B1081all the way into Stamford onto Scotgate. Pass the BP garage (in town) on the left.

Turn left at the next set of traffic lights onto North Street.

After passing the Police Station and going under the footbridge you will arrive at a set of traffic lights.

Turn Left here onto Ryhall road, past the main Entrance to Stamford Boys School. Proceed up to the mini roundabout.

Take the first exit signposted A6121 towards Bourne.

(Should you require to pick up any groceries go straight on at this roundabout for 150m and you will find Morrisons supermarket on the left hand side at the next roundabout)

From Stamford follow the A6121 out past the Hospital, and collection of stores (Currys, Homebase etc) for approx 2 miles.

Then follow the directions above “Leaving Stamford”

6. Entering Stamford on the A16 from Market Deeping

Proceed straight over (second exit) the mini roundabout at the Morrisons supermarket along Uffington Road past the Hospital.

Turn right at the next roundabout (A6121 Bourne)

Follow the directions “Leaving Stamford”

7. Entering Stamford on the A6121 for Bourne

Immediately on entering the outskirts of the village of Carlby, past the bus stop on the right hand side turn left into the village.

Proceed all the way through the village and out, for about 1 mile, under the railway bridge to the crossroads. (B1176)

Turn right up Barber’s Hill.

Alternatively

There is a very quick route off the A1 avoiding Stamford.

1.Travelling North

Pass the exit for the A606, and proceed for around a mile or so, the A1 starts to go uphill and bend slowly to the left, you will see a sign for “Services” and this includes the “Okay Diner.”

Enter the forecourt and drive through between the garage and the diner, exiting at the back of the garage.

Turn left and follow the road around back underneath the A1.

You have now entered Great Casterton village. Almost immediately as you enter the village you will see a turning left signposted Ryhall/ Casterton College.

Turn left here and proceed past the college (beware speed ramps!) and continue for approximately 2 miles.

Turn left onto the B1176 in the direction of Careby, Little Bytham. (Do not go over onto the main Bourne road.)

Longer term rentals

Cottage 1 and cottage 2 are both available for long term rentals specifically for those occasions when several weeks or months are required between house moves, or contract working in the Lincolnshire/Rutland area for example. (No need to go to the expense of a minimum 6 month short term tenancy agreement!)

Whether you require self catering accommodation close to Stamford, Grantham, Bourne, Melton Mowbray, Oundle, Oakham, Leicester or Nottingham, Clematis cottages are ten minutes from the A1 and perfectly placed for access throughout the East Midlands, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire as well as being easily accessible from London via the high speed train link to Peterborough. (Free parking is available at Stamford station for direct access to the connecting services to London and Scotland or alternatively across country to Birmingham and Norwich). Clematis cottages are available for longer term accommodation or simply as the base for a beautiful holiday or short break.(weekend retreat)
