Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROCs)

The Renewables Obligation (RO) is designed to encourage generation of electricity from eligible renewable sources in the United Kingdom. Renewable Obligation Certificates are awarded for the generation of renewable electricity from eligible sources and depending on the technology different levels of certificates are awarded. The ArborElectroGen® qualifies for 1.9 ROCs for every MWh of electricity it produces under the Advanced Gasification tariff. These certificates are awarded for generation and are therefore issued regardless of whether the power is used onsite or exported to the grid or a combination of both. These ROCs can then be market traded to convert the certificates into a revenue stream for the plant owner. Once the scheme is accredited to the Renewables Obligation it is locked into the mechanism for 20 years – regardless of future changes to subsidy schemes

A ROC is currently worth around £42/MWh – or 4.2p/kWh

In April 2015/16 Arbor Electrogen Systems will qualify for 1.9 ROCs per MWh for their lifetime and from April 2017 newly accredited systems will attract 1.8 ROCs per MWh.

Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The RHI is a scheme introduced by the Government to promote the use and generation of heat from renewable sources within the UK. Quite simply the Government pay a tariff for every kWh of renewable heat generated by an eligible technology and used for an eligible purpose. The tariff paid depends on the technology from which the heat is generated. The ArborElectroGen® is eligible for the biogas combustion tariff, which is a flat rate tariff for heat which is derived from biogas combustion – in other words the heat which is derived from the engine.
